Edinburgh’s favourite awful man is coming to Rotterdam! On Friday 20 November 2026, British, multi-award-winning comedian Sam Eley brings his character Basil Crumbwick to the Main Room of Comedy Club Haug, as part of Shtick Fest.

Basil has a gigantic papier-mâché head, bloodshot eyes and very strong opinions. He hates his neighbour Beverley. He desperately wants to befriend the bin man. And he has written a self-help book nobody asked for. An hour of dark, absurd character comedy, with more jokes per minute than seems physically possible.

Soul Sewage was one of the big hits of the Edinburgh Fringe 2026. The show won Best Newcomer at the ISH Edinburgh Comedy Awards and the NextUp Biggest Award in Comedy. Chortle gave it five stars and compared Basil to Vic Reeves and Alan Partridge.
