About Hidde van Gestel

Hidde van Gestel (Tilburg, 2000) is a stand-up comedian, cabaret artist and Dutch language graduate. (Cum laude. Not that it matters. But still.) He is known for his sharp view of himself and the world around him. With wry, self-deprecating humour, Hidde reflects on the line between who he is and who he thought he would become. He can be biting, but his charming accent softens the blow. Before you know it, he has said something sharp without you even noticing.

Awards

In 2024 he won the jury and audience prizes at the Tilburgs Cabaret Festival.
In 2025 he won the jury, audience and personality prizes at the Groninger Studenten Cabaret Festival.

What they say

“Hidde cleverly plays with his audience’s expectations, likes to wrong-foot people, or creates a pleasant kind of discomfort.”
– Jury report GSCF

“Van Gestel is a good storyteller who takes the time to sketch his situations, using his physicality in a particularly pleasant and delightfully shameless way.”
– Theaterkrant
